Greek exports are expected to grow by 7-9 pct – or even more if more favourable conditions prevail – Christina Sakellaridi, president of the Panhellenic Exporters Association said on Friday.

Speaking to ANA’s “Praktoreio 104.9 FM” radio station, Sakellaridi said: “We hope for an increase of 7-9 pct or even higher if more favourable conditions prevail in the year.”

She said that 2017 was a record year for exports, both in value and product level. Sakellaridi said that on product level exports totaled 19.98 billion euros, but if oil products were added export growth reached 13.2 pct. “The last time we saw an increase was in 2012 and with these figures we exceeded 2012,” she noted.

“Almost all sectors recorded increases in 2017,” she said, adding that only alcohol/tobacco suffered a small decline (2.9 pct) last year. “We are satisfied, bearing in mind the difficulties facing exporters,” Sakellaridi said, adding that exporters needed an amendment or/and abolition of capital controls and lower taxation.
