Clashes erupted on Wednesday evening in central Athens, outside of the Hellenic Police Attica Headquarters between police officers and student demonstrators.

Thousands of students were protesting against perceived police brutality and the conservative government’s new ”law and order” policy.

Protesters were demonstrating in particular against an incident which took place on Tuesday inside the premises of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), where a police officer dressed as a civilian took his gun inside the University.

Police have made seven arrests in total so far, and tear gas has been used in the nearby streets of the capital city.
