129 Individuals Detained in Massive Police Operation in Central Athens

More than one hundred and twenty-nine individuals have been taken in for questioning since a major police operation got underway in the area of Omonoia Square in central Athens on Friday.

The operation was conducted just one day after an Afghan national died and another Afghan was seriously injured in a bloody incident in downtown Athens.

Yesterday’s deadly battle took place between rival migrant factions, with eyewitnesses saying that the incident was exceptionally brutal.

According to police sources, the perpetrators of the crime have now been identified, but there is still no official information on their identities.

It is still unclear when and whether the dozens of those individuals who remain in detention are going to be released.
